Danish shipping conglomerate Maersk — long seen as a barometer of world trade — has raised its 2026 earnings guidance for the second time this year, even as global shipping routes remain disrupted by the ongoing blockade at the Strait of Hormuz.
Maersk shares jumped 7% on the news, after the company reported preliminary second-quarter earnings of $3 billion, comfortably beating analyst expectations of just over $2 billion. The strong results come despite warnings from shipping companies that port congestion and trucking delays could continue to push up global delivery costs.
The news landed on a broadly positive day for markets. Wall Street futures ticked higher ahead of a closely watched U.S. inflation report, while oil prices slipped, with Brent crude falling nearly 2% to trade around $87 a barrel. Investors increasingly believe the U.S. Federal Reserve will hold off on further interest rate hikes, following a cooler-than-expected inflation reading and a softer July jobs report.

For a Denmark-based diaspora audience, Maersk’s resilience carries particular weight — a reminder that even amid global uncertainty, the country’s flagship shipping line continues to steer through rough waters.
