MQM-P has renewed its call for a new province in Sindh, with plans for a public mobilisation campaign and legal steps to secure constitutional rights for urban residents.
- MQM-P demands a new province in Sindh, citing Article 239 of the Constitution.
- Party convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui warns of taking the struggle to the streets if parliament and courts fail to deliver justice.
- Discussions on the 28th Amendment are underway, with the proposed amendment relating to local bodies, NFC, and health matters.
MQM-P Press Conference
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, MQM-P convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said the demand for a new province is a constitutional requirement, not just the party’s demand.
Siddiqui warned that if parliament and the courts fail to deliver justice, the party would “take the struggle to the streets”.
Constitutional Rights and Feudal Democracy
Siddiqui cited Article 239, which allows the creation of new provinces and districts, and questioned Karachi’s population figures and what the city receives in return.
He also questioned whether those opposing new provinces in Sindh held the same position on Punjab, praising the Punjab Assembly for presenting Article 140-A.
