Copenhagen-based vaccine maker Bavarian Nordic will donate 75,000 doses of its MVA-BN vaccine to a global mpox emergency stockpile, the company said on Tuesday.
The donation comes on top of a contract to supply 150,000 doses to the stockpile, strengthening global preparedness against the viral disease.

A WHO-hosted stockpile
The stockpile is managed by the International Coordinating Group on Vaccine Provision, a mechanism hosted by the World Health Organization. It is designed so that doses can be deployed quickly when outbreaks flare.
“The establishment of a global mpox vaccine emergency stockpile is an important milestone in strengthening preparedness for future outbreaks,” Bavarian Nordic said.
What mpox is
Mpox is a viral disease that causes fever and skin lesions and spreads through close physical contact. Global health authorities have worked to build vaccine reserves since major outbreaks in recent years exposed gaps in access, particularly in Africa.
The announcement, reported by Reuters from Copenhagen on 27 October 2026, underlines the Danish company’s central role in the world’s mpox vaccine supply.
