Purpose and Verified for Climate are hosting a series of events around COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, to help creators, scientists and partners use storytelling to fight misinformation and drive climate action. The programme, published on 27 October 2026 and updated on 29 October 2026, brings the fight against false climate claims into the heart of the COP31 conference, which runs from 9 to 20 November 2026 in Antalya.

What is Verified for Climate?

Verified for Climate is a joint initiative of the United Nations and the social impact agency Purpose, according to the United Nations. It promotes solutions-focused, science-based information to debunk myths and counter narratives of denialism, doomism and delay.

The initiative works through three pillars: trusted messengers and community engagement at ground level, global creative campaigns that reach large audiences, and convenings that bring climate communications experts together to share insights and encourage cooperation.

The COP31 events in Antalya

The COP31 programme lists five gatherings for creators, communicators and partners:

Pre-COP Creator Briefing

A briefing led by the UNFCCC, held in partnership with the conference organisers, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Central European Time ahead of COP31. Creators hear from the COP organising team, ask questions and connect with other creators before the conference begins.

Day 1 Creator Welcome and Networking

An informal meetup at 11:00 a.m. Türkiye time at the UNFCCC Creator Hub in the Blue Zone, where creators get to know one another, share ideas and explore collaboration through the conference. The event is open to creators with access to the Blue Zone.

Creator for Good Panel: From Science to Stories That Move People

A panel from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Türkiye time in the Blue Zone, hosted by the UNFCCC, TILT Collective, Verified for Climate and Purpose, YouTube and TikTok. It asks how climate information can be turned into stories that people trust, care about and act on, and how creators can build trust while working with scientists, journalists and communities and keeping their own voice.

Verified for Climate Workshop at TED House

An interactive workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Türkiye time at TED House in Antalya, where Purpose and Verified for Climate explore how creators approach climate storytelling and consider new ways to connect climate issues with audiences.

Artists, creators and scientists panel

A panel from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Türkiye time at the UNFCCC Pavilion in the Blue Zone, hosted by Verified for Climate and UN Climate Change. It explores how people can find new ways to talk about climate change through their passions, interests and cultures, and how climate action can feel communal and doable.

Why climate misinformation matters

The COP31 creator programme sits inside a wider United Nations effort on information integrity. The Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change was announced at the G20 Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024 by Brazil, the United Nations and UNESCO, and its Declaration on Information Integrity on Climate Change was launched at COP30 on 12 November 2025.

At Belgium’s SDG Forum on 13 October 2026, United Nations communications officials warned that artificial intelligence is speeding up content creation with few guardrails, and that tactics against climate action include harassment of scientists and journalists, targeting policymakers, and algorithms that push people into polarised echo chambers. They described COP31 in Antalya as a real chance to build momentum on protecting climate information.

The pairing of creators with scientists is deliberate. According to Reuters Institute findings summarised by the Global Landscapes Forum, about half of people polled in eight countries trust mainstream news media on climate, while nearly three-quarters trust scientists as a source of climate information. Trusted storytellers carrying verified science can therefore reach audiences that formal reports alone may not.
