Suspect detained in Tusk assassination plot
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński confirmed that police arrested a man suspected of threatening and planning an attack against the prime minister. Defence Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also serves as deputy prime minister, was identified as a possible second target.
Tusk himself announced on social media that the man who had threatened to attack him “has been apprehended,” thanking officers for their swift and decisive action. Authorities did not disclose the suspect’s identity or any details of the alleged plan.
Emergency security meeting in Warsaw
Earlier on Sunday, Interior Ministry spokesperson Karolina Galecka said on X that police had received information about a possible attack on Tusk and Kosiniak-Kamysz. Interior Minister Kierwiński and the minister-coordinator of special services, Tomasz Siemoniak, ordered action, and an emergency meeting of security services, police and Interior Ministry officials was held at 11:00 a.m. at the ABW Counter-Terrorism Centre.

Threat assessed as “high probability”
“We take this matter extremely seriously,” said Jacek Dobrzyński, the spokesperson for the minister overseeing Poland’s intelligence services, speaking after the emergency meeting. He said authorities assessed a “high probability” that the threats would be carried out. The information first reached the State Protection Service, which then passed it to the police.
Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka told Polish media that Tusk learned about the threat first thing on Sunday morning. He said that while officials occasionally receive threats, this one was “exceptionally concerning.”
Dobrzyński said the Polish services were receiving an increasing number of various threats every month, adding: “Now we’re talking about the most important people of the country.”
Poland on high alert
The Tusk assassination plot warning comes as Poland has been on high alert following a series of school stabbings this week. Three attacks at schools in Mazovia province in central Poland took place within four days, leaving one person dead and many wounded, including children.
Poland has also voiced fears of a possible Russian hybrid attack aimed at weakening Western support for Ukraine in its war against Moscow’s invasion. In September, Tusk warned that Russia was likely to intensify hybrid attacks on NATO’s eastern flank. Moscow has denied any such plans, and Polish authorities did not link the suspected plot against Tusk to Russia.
