Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on Saturday, October 3, 2026, walking onstage during host Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue and delivering one of the night’s funniest moments. The Taylor Swift SNL cameo saw the 36-year-old pop superstar playfully reject Johnson’s introduction of her as “my literal therapist,” telling the cheering studio audience, “I’m not your therapist, actually.”

Swift walked out to huge cheers after Johnson, hosting the show for the third time, joked about her well-documented history of dating musicians and said she had good friends who “don’t judge me for dating these men.” What followed was a deadpan back-and-forth between the two friends about wine, oversharing and sleepovers that quickly lit up social media.

What happened during the Taylor Swift SNL cameo

Johnson’s monologue opened with jokes about her love life, and she then introduced “my literal therapist” — cuing Swift to walk onstage. Swift immediately corrected the job description.

“You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some,” Swift said. “You flop on my couch and overshare, and every so often I just say, ‘Damn, that’s crazy.'”

Johnson replied, “Yeah, well I have manners,” and asked, “Is that not a therapist?” The bit ended with Johnson shouting, “Sleepover, yay!” — and Swift noting she sends her friend home with “a Pedialyte” and a security escort.

Johnson also worked in a nod to Swift’s husband, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, saying her dating life had taken her to “England and parts of Ireland and Cleveland” — prompting a delighted “Woo-woo!” from Swift.

Johnson’s monologue jokes, from dating history to Madame Web

The monologue drew on Johnson’s recent romantic history. She noted she had recently been linked with Machine Gun Kelly and had previously dated Role Model after her eight-year relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin ended. Joking that dating musicians was a public service, she said she was saving women “a lot of money on Zoloft.”

Johnson also poked fun at her own career, joking that Madame Web was “still not making any money” and that she had broken up with two musicians since the last time she hosted the show. She joked about making out with Anne Hathaway in her upcoming film Verity, a psychosexual erotic thriller, adding, “Now she’s pregnant, you do the math.”

The musical guest for the episode was Turnstile, meaning Swift’s cameo was purely comedic — she did not perform. Johnson was hosting the night before her birthday on October 4.

The cameo capped a busy week for the pair. Swift’s new single “Patient Zero” — which she directed — premiered at the MTV VMAs the previous weekend, where Johnson made a surprise appearance to present Swift with the Artist Director Honors award. Johnson co-stars in the video alongside Colin Farrell and Cara Delevingne, and an expanded eight-minute version of the video was released exclusively on Apple Music on the Saturday of the SNL episode.

The monologue also marked Johnson’s third time hosting Saturday Night Live, following her earlier turns in February 2015 and January 2024.
